What is Reiki? Reiki is a spiritual healing art with its roots in Japanese origin. The word Reiki comes from the Japanese word (Rei) which means “Universal Life” and (Ki) which means “Energy”. Reiki is not affiliated with any particular religion or religious practice. It is not massage nor is it based on belief or suggestion. It is a subtle and effective form of energy work using spiritually guided life force energy. Reiki is the life energy that flows through all living things. Reiki Practitioners understand that everyone has the ability to connect with their own healing energy and use it to strengthen energy in themselves and help others. It is believed that a person’s “ki” or energy should be strong and free flowing. When this is true a person’s body and mind is in a positive state of health. When the energy becomes weak or blocked it could lead to symptoms of physical or emotional imbalance. A Reiki session can help ease tension and stress and can help support the body to facilitate an environment for healing on all levels – physical, mental, and emotional. A session is pleasant and relaxing and is often utilized for one’s personal wellness. History of Reiki Reiki is believed to have been associated with Mikao Usui who is credited with rediscovering the root system now called Reiki. His tradition and methods were passed through several grandmasters of Reiki. Today, Reiki takes many forms, however, The Usui System of Natural Healing is still the form most widely practiced. Practitioners and Master Teachers are trained through an initiation process where Masters pass on their knowledge and expertise to their students. Reiki is a great tool for stress reduction and relaxation. Many people use Reiki for wellness. Reiki is not a cure for a disease or illness, but it may assist the body in creating an environment to facilitate healing. Reiki is a great tool to use as a complement to traditional medicine and is practiced in many hospitals and medical care settings. What is Shamanism? A Direct Connection to Spirit Shamanism is the oldest religion on the planet, making it perhaps the most natural way for people to connect with their sacred. Shamanism does not require a third party to intervene for you and help you connect to the sacred (such as a priest or priestess). What this means is that all of the sacred connection and empowerment that's offered through the path of shamanism is something you can do on your own — whether at an altar in your living room or high on a mountaintop in the Andes. Connecting directly to the sacred is a right of all humans, and mastering the ability to do so can help cure the general feeling of disempowerment that's so common in our modern society. A Path of Positive Change for Our World If we all followed the principles of shamanism — acknowledging and having reverence for the sacred in all things, remembering our interconnection with life, and choosing to connect regularly and directly with the Divine, the world would be a much different place. When don Oscar says is that shamanism is a “path of selfless action,” he's affirming that practitioners are in service to the greater good and to all things — since shamans are deeply aware of and connected to everything. Here’s to shamanism creating positive and lasting change in our modern world! Shamanism is not a religious belief but rather a methodology utilized by healers in different parts of the world. These regions encompass central and north Asia, Australia, New Zealand, North and South America, Siberia, Central Asia, Eastern and Northern Europe, and Africa. It is considered the oldest and most widespread system of healing known to humans. Within shamanism, the role of the shaman is seen as that of an expert in the human soul, possessing the ability to perceive its essence and comprehend its destiny. Shamanic practitioners often employ "nonordinary reality" or controlled trance states to gain insights and information for the benefit of their patients. The shamanic approach combines naturalistic and personalistic methods to guide individuals towards inner peace, balance, and overall well-being.

As all ancient spiritual practices are rooted in nature, shamanism is the method by which we as human beings can strengthen that natural connection.

One of the greatest joys of Reiki and Shamanic Reiki Mastership has been teaching this medicine to others.  The thrill of witnessing the students of my Reiki/ Shamanic Reiki class receiving Reiki energy during the attunement. Then, as I guide them in its use, sharing in their joy and amazement as they experience it's gentle power flowing though them for the first time. Seeing students use Reiki to help family, friends and clients, a wonderful sense of spiritual connection has develop between all of us. Feelings of compassion and love for everyone has strengthened as we merge with the Reiki Consciousness and know more deeply that we come from the same sours and that we are all one in that creation.
